Gates Of The Arctic
This quintessential wilderness landscape does not contain any trails, signs, or permanent visitor facilities, and no roads provide access to the park, yet Alaska Native people have called the land home for over ten thousand years. To get to the remote cabin we called home during our stay, we had to take four flights on increasingly smaller planes to land on a river where we inflated our canoes and paddled for three hours downstream. Thankfully we only had to portage across land to get to another river and continue our journey once.
